This was a decent start to the series, I'm interested to see where this will go, but I wasn't as gripped as I thought I would be. This felt like more of an introduction to the characters, and I think the real action will likely start now that we've gotten to know them a bit better.

there came a point in the book where i flat out froze in horror and then went and re-read majority of the book from the start, and i still cant tell if i was an idiot who missed all the signs or just intentionally misled. either way it ended up increasing my positive feelings towards the book by 50%

A much better book than I expected. I picked it up thinking it was going to be some trashy YA fantasy romance, it instead I read a book that was engaging from the first to last page, that gave me a romance I could really root for. My only complaint is that the premise is extremely generic. By the end, it became its own thing, but at the beginning I was feeling like I’ve read this a thousand times. I also saw the plot twist coming. But the way it was handled made me love the characters even more.

I had a great time with this book. I did not know this serious existed and actually read the Dance of Thieves duology before this and fell in love with the way Mary Pearson writes. I wasn’t too sure about this one at first because the beginning is a bit slow but it does pick up and the twist is phenomenal and I never saw it coming.
