Romantic and spicy

I enjoyed this. The concept was fresh, different from the scores of alien romances I have read so far. Centuries ago, humans colonised an alien planet and have been at war with the native population, the Dugorim, ever since. The humans live in walled cities and are ruled by king Atys who has just died. His 19 year old daughter Fiorinda inherits the crown, but is imprisoned by her cruel stepmother. She is placed in a dungeon in a cell next to a captive Dugorim warrior. There is one way to break out of prison: mating with the alien warrior will trigger a protective instinct towards his mate and increase his strength tenfold.

A steamy romantic adventure ensues. The story was well written, though my only criticism is that I would have liked to have seen more of the development of the relationship between the two main protagonists after their decision to mate. The last section of the book felt a little rushed. However, I will be checking out the next installment in this series and would recommend this first story to anyone new to this author.

You read the blurb, you read the entire thing minus the smutt. It was good, had the potential of being much longer; instead the characters and their relationship, as well as their world, are underdeveloped.

wow i did not expect myself to like this. and G'rrak was so sweet in the end gaaah his confession got to me.

“Our mate-bond protects me. As long as you are alive, I cannot be killed.”
“And what about after I die?” I ask him.
“Then I will die too. I will follow you into the afterdeath, so my spirit can continue to protect yours. When your heart ceases to beat, mine will cease with it.”
“You are able to control your heart like that?”
“No, but you are.”

there's even an epilogue showing their offspring all grown up which was nice.

G’rakk and Fiorinda, the male and female leads, are not quite enemies but the enemy of my enemy is my friend! The sex is intense and erotic, and the relationship builds from desperation to an actual personal relationship.

The story is dual POV but mainly female lead, well written and edited, and very, very hot without being into hardcore pain. I enjoyed this story a lot.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
