Be me, something years old and in middle school. Fall to the hype and marketing by my classmates and pick this book up. Enjoy it all the way to The Heir.
Years later, try another of the author's book. Find out the writing didn't live up to childhood nostalgia and question if this series of book would also be just as lukewarm if I read it today :(
But oh well, it captivated me when I was young. Introduced me to the enjoyment of romance books, IIRC!

I liked this!! I found it very fun to read. The characters are enjoyable and the world building is a little vague but it's also book one so. I think my only complaint is everyone's ridiculous names lol

I don't like Aspen, love Maxon
I was intrigued by the concept, girls from across a vast caste system could compete for the hand of the prince. The execution was fairly well done, the number of girls quickly reduced to just a handful. However, I was easily frustrated with America because she kept wavering between Aspen and Maxon. She made a commitment to be open to a relationship with Maxon and promised that she would have no relationships with other men while involved in the Selection. She lied.
