I really wish I could write some eloquent review about how much I enjoyed this, but I don’t think I can. Just know that this is SO MUCH BETTER than that other book and I can’t recommend it enough. Sexy scenes, a hot man, a puppy, and mystery? Need I say more? What a fantastic book! I am DYING for the sequel! I am also dying for a Braden Black, but I’m sure I’m not alone.

I try not to judge erotica books harshly. As long as I enjoy the sex scenes I’m a happy reader. Easy to please, that’s me. I was asked to review Follow Me Darkly by Entangled Publishing and all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
Does anyone remember the multitude of erotica books that came out after Fifty Shades of Grey that were almost carbon copies of it? Of course you do. Well this is one of those. Despite that it does have some good stuff in it. There’s a masturbation scene which I can’t recall reading in a romance novel besides The Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham. I give the book points for that. I wish it had dirtier, kinkier sex scenes (I mean it’s supposed to be light BDSM-like sex) but I get the feeling the reader is swimming in the shallow end in this book. Perhaps book two will dive right into the deep end.
There were also funny scenes which is always a treat. The characters actually had personalities!
I think this worked great as an introduction book. It gives the reader a feel for the characters without revealing too much.
Despite thinking I was reading a Fifty Shades of Grey carbon copy at times I was still flipping the pages like a madwoman. So if you’re interested I would definitely give it a try. Book two can’t come soon enough!

Skye is a small town Kansas farm girl who left home to become a photographer, and she achieved that, in a way. She takes the photos for Addison Aimes, a social media influencer. It isn't ideal, but at least she is able to take photos and is making some great contacts. Everything is going well until the billionaire, Braiden Black, comments on one of Addison's posts stating that she doesn't like coffee. While true it isn't something that should get out which causes Addison to flip out on Braiden's receptionist and him to pay a personal visit to her office.
Braiden is everything Skye has ever seen about him and so much more. He is beautiful in a sexy, manly way and when he asks her to lunch she can't help but agree. The only thing is this man demands full control and she needs to be in control at all times. Just how much is she willing to give to this man who is full of secrets?

As we all know I am a fan of dominating males so of course I was drawn to Braiden Black. He is tall with broad shoulders. My absolute favorite. I have to say the history between he and Addison and the reason for their past, at least what we were told of it I seen coming. It was actually a bit more tame than I was expecting, but I will not give it away. Maybe the next book will go in more details about what happened there.

This is book one in a series and it has all kinds of fun aspects which give off a 50 shades vibe. There is light bondage, battling with emerging feelings, and mysterious backgrounds. What more could a girl ask for in a smut book? That being said as much as I enjoy a sexy bondage book with lots of sex I don't like unanswered questions. This leaves a lot to be desired. To be technical, yes they didn't just end the book like it is going from one chapter to the next with nothing answered, but they might as well have. There are a lot of questions to be had for the book on the last page and we haven't reached any kind of true resolution. I don't know that I will be picking up the next book in this series, even though I did enjoy this book until the end.

I cannot believe how quickly I finished this book; I wasn’t able to put it down for very long and just flew this one! Braden and Skye are a very unique couple and their contrasting dynamics make them riveting to read about.

Skye is the assistant to a top Instagram influencer. She does all her photos, post copy and keeps Addison Ames looking like the super star everyone thinks she is. Skye comes from a rural farm town and wants to be a photographer, so this job is supposed to be her chance to get her foot in the door. She thrives on having utter control over her own life and making decisions that limit the risk she takes. But when she meets the billionaire Braden Black who wants to own all of her self control, she really has to take stock of what’s more important to her.

Women in today’s society can probably relate a lot with Skye in the manner that she protects herself by weaponizing her self control. It’s how she keeps people at a distance and ultimately keeps herself from getting hurt. But this also means that she’s been missing out on some really exciting things in her. Which, bring Braden into the picture, and she starts to experience and realize that giving her control over to a man who ultimately protects her control and helps them both, may be worth the risk.

The trick with all of the plot is that it’s entirely told from Sky’e perspective and muddled with her own perceptions, concerns and insecurities. Which was perfectly fine but does lead the reader down a very specific path of only being able to see things from her perspective. I love Braden’s dark and mysterious ways as his personality is very difficult to read from Skye’s point of view, but all of his actions speak louder than his words do. He’s a man of very few words and keeps what he has to say to the point.

All of the things they experience together show a development in the BDSM world without the normal contractual layouts that one would normally have in this setting. I think that’s the only part that doesn’t sit well with me about Braden. Rather than having open dialogue with Skye about his interests and evaluating her own interest, then laying out their arrangements, he kind of walks her down that path and lets her decide for herself. This works very well for the story and the characters but leaves out some important elements of this lifestyle regarding safety of participants with safe words, contracts, etc.

Looking forward to reading the next installment in this series and learning more about Skye and Braden and where their relationship goes from here!

I freaking love Helen Hardt even more after this book. She seriously is one of the best romance authors I have ever read.

I love this book so much because to me it seems more realistic and I guess, up to date, modern?
I think Braden honestly seems like a jerk myself but he is slowly growing on me and I think its because Im watching him grow too into something hes not sure he wants.

I love the secrets being held back because I honestly have no idea what it is! I'm a little worried it's going to end childish but I still have high hopes for the second book!!
If you love her other books this book is definitely for you! It has her same ideas but totally different type of story!

While the promise of this book was really interesting, the writing style was good to read... the execution was unfortunately not doing it for me.

It has some of the typical '50 shades vibes', which I definitely don't mind though, but without the proper depth and development for my taste. This book had me rolling my eyes so many times.

From time to time I was really enjoying it thanks to the writing style that was, as I said, good to read and for the fact that I thought that Braden was such a mysterious character, but I just couldn’t fully connect and lose myself to this story in the end unfortunately. The mystery and not getting much the wiser during most of the book, the resolving part of it all... It dragged on a bit too much for my taste.

I did really like how the steamy romance went more darker towards the end and I have to say though that I’m still quite curious to see how the story continues in the next installment but I’m not sure yet if I’ll actually pick it up then.

Overall this book had lesser positives than ‘negatives’ for me which I’m really sad about seeing it started off as such a fast paced read.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an arc of this book. My opinions on this book are entirely my own and not influenced by the fact that I got a review copy

This book was so well written! The drama and plot were well thought out. It gives a 50 shades of Grey but more fast paced. I also enjoy how the plot isn’t all over the place. Even when there different angles of drama it all focuses on one point. This is a really good bdsm book and that says a lot. He actually had a relationship with her that has nothing to do with him wanting her for that lifestyle. He’s very open and honest with his life and answers every question she has. I also liked how it ended on a cliffhanger and it had me reading book two almost immediately. Definitely worth the 3.5⭐️. Hopefully book two is just as good.

While I read this book based on a recommendation, I was super disappointed. The characters felt hollow and one dimensional, lacking nuance. The love scenes felt emotionless. The dialogue read unrealistic. There was really no plot to speak of—and any attempt to add character development or depth felt forced. I won’t be reading the second instalment.
