I had very low expectations when starting. The idea of the CIA being in the Amazon did not appeal to me but it was a gift and on my shelf for the past two years. I decided to read it, thinking it would just be a quick lazy read to fill up my annual reading goal…

I was mistaken, the way the author blends horror, action, romance, adventure and espionage—and still makes it work is amazing!

It reminded me of The Lost World by Sir Author Conan Doyle but much more detailed, it also had a touch of Journey to the Interior of The Earth by Jules Verne. I enjoyed both of those novels but I always felt like I was left wanting. James Rollins has left no stone unturned in this epic adventure and instead of the amalgamation of genres coming out cheap, it has rather given a little something for everyone to enjoy.

I am a fan of James Rollins' novels. This has in no way diminished that. It does, however, indicate the growth his works have made since these earlier novels. Of the early works, I see hints of a formula at work. In the later stories, not so. Amazonia was a good read and kept my attention through the end.

If you enjoy Action/Adventure type movies you will probably enjoy this book. To say some parts are far fetched and hard to believe is actually an understatement, but as is typical in this Genre, it is simply a matter of suspending your disbelief at times and just enjoying the ride! That is not to say that there aren't any fact-based or educational parts (as is true in all of Rollins' novels), but rather that his imagination can be somewhat extreme, and the results somewhat fantastical. Even so, this s a fast, fun read that keeps you interested throughout, in typical Rollins fashion.

I read this book off of a recommendation and I wasn’t completely sure like it. I am so glad I decided to read this book, I loved it. I love the setting of traveling deep into the Amazon and discovering the secrets it holds. I’m definitely going to be checking out books by Mr. Rollins in the future! I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it !

There is an unknown disease spreading throughout America. The cure for which lies somewhere deep in the Amazonian rainforest along with the secret of regeneration.

The military sends out a group of people to investigate. Throw in some mercenaries, gigantic & deadly animals in the rainforest along with scary tribes that mate with jaguars.

The story is fast paced and it keeps you on the edge.

I simply could not get into this. I read nearly the first 100 pages and it seemed like it was slow going. By page 100 the search crew had just entered the Amazon jungle. I lost interest. Lots of dialog and minimal action. Don't expect a fast-paced action thriller. Usually not the case for James Rollins books.

The best thriller you’ve never heard of. If it were a movie it would be a combination of: Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Outbreak.

I had to read this for work. But it counts. I read the whole thing. Some of it twice. So I get credit.

It happens in the Amazon. There are guns. And piranha frogs.
