SpoilerYu-Gi-Oh with aliens

This was suggested and read to me by my lovely partner! It's a really interesting story if you can get around how idiotic and annoying Barney can be. It's fast paced and has a solid premise.

I've never really been one for Sci-Fi books. And then I started reading Douglas Adams. Hilarious, I must say. Of course, you have to be slightly off your rocker in order to maybe slightly understand what the hell goes on in his books.

Regardless, this book is Science Fiction. The only reason I picked it up from the library the other day was that I'd started reading it years ago (sixth grade, to be exact) and had never finished. And I heard the author wrote a sequel recently, so I thought I'd pick it up and finish it. (After ten years.. jeebus, am I old?)

The story is pretty weird (that's my middle name), so I liked it a lot. Somethin' about how you never know what kind of neighbors you'll have while staying at a beach house on some island.. Uh, yeah.

I liked the ending the best. The last line was hilarious. The climax of the story is great, weird with humorous mixed in. If anything, read it for the ending, especially the last line. (Warning: I mentioned that I'm weird? Well, you may not find the last line as funny as I did. It had me rollin' in bed at 1 in the morning. :D)

I read this book a long time ago, and I remember loving it.

I'm not normally a fan of science fiction, but I really liked this book.

This was one of my favorite childhood books. His other stories aren't nearly as good. The kid plays a board game with neighbors and suddenly it is very real and involves aliens.

Fascinating, creative, well-paced, and fun!

The best of Sleator's books. I love rereading this favorite from my youth.

DID NOT FINISH

The kindle version of this book is riddled with content errors making it practically unreadable. It might be better in print.

This was a childhood favorite that I have kept on the shelf all this time. I re-read it as part of the SPL Book Bingo challenge, and it did not disappoint. I can totally see why my younger self enjoyed this: It is smart, wry, and contains some solid action. I love the nerdy teen protagonist and the "bons vivants" aliens. It blends the vibe of a New England ghost story and a Science Fiction thriller. I am recommending this to my kids, who are now the right age to enjoy it.
