Omg! This book was everything! I think I hoped so much for the character’s to achieve their goals that I felt I was in the story! There were times where I was just so sad for Tris that I couldn’t move. There were also times where I felt pure joy and this book brought the best of me into the real world! This book really makes you feel for this characters! This is a must read!

Insurgent was amazing, never down time while reading, your constantly engaged and plot twists every chapter, really really good
100 percent recommend.. a little violence which I skipped a little but plot is great but a little heartbreaking and you really feel like your in the book

I made the mistake of watching the film first which grossly oversimplified the book. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the second half / final third of the book largely differed from the film, and I really enjoyed the ending.

That being said the book could have easier been much shorter if less time was dedicated to relationships between minor side characters and to Tris’ grief. Overall an enjoyable YA read.

I am forever blown away by how much better these books are compared to the films. From the character details to the plot changes, the books are just better and way more enjoyable.

Representation: Minor Black character
Score: Seven points out of ten.

It's been so long since I read and enjoyed Divergent and I've been putting this one on hold for a while but now I finally picked up the second instalment in the trilogy, Insurgent and read it. When I finished it, I felt underwhelmed and I hope the final part of the series, Allegiant will be a much needed improvement. It starts (more like continues) with the main character Beatrice Prior now called Tris and I pick up right after the events of the first novel and I meet other characters I've known previously like Tobias/Four and new ones I never heard of up until this point. There is noticeably less action within this novel and the only reason I can think of is that that was to allow for the romance between Tris and Four to develop but here's the thing: I don't mind character dynamics. As long as they have a good execution and the characters are rootable and likable in the first place. However, I thought those two missed the mark in terms of the character writing as I couldn't root for them and I liked Tris in the first part of the series but in this part I felt more disconnected from her and all the other people. At least the ending had more action than the rest of Insurgent and I still hope I will enjoy Allegiant but now I have low expectations for it.

This book did too much telling and not enough showing for me. The conflict between Tobias and Tris was forced, unnecessary or predictable, with Tris (who is supposed to be smart!) obnoxiously repeating many of the same mistakes and being surprised when the outcome is, predictably, Not Nice. The author tried to explore the consequences of book 1 - admirable - but I wish she’d show us, somehow, and not rub it in through Tris’ inconsistent internal monologue without exploring the deeper layers. That said, the plot and pacing were great, and the ending worked up to a good climax that still makes me pick up book 3.
