Read this as individual issues .

The plot is simple , the two corpses have done exceptionally well , but there have been past events in this partnerships that now resurface to strain the alliance . Would the alliance survive for the greater good ? or will it fall back to return to the status quo of the good ol' days ?

What I liked :
➕ Venditti gets GL well , his story telling feels like the old GL comics
➕ There was involvement and distribution of roles equally amongst all characters
➕ The motivations of characters was understandable

What I didn't like :
➖ The art style was passable for most part , but sometimes the faces really felt weird and bugged the hell out of me
➖ The finale felt a bit abrupt and awkward
➖ There was a distinct lack of action scenes , while there was a lot of possibility for it .

Great collection. The Nth Metal story was my favorite part and hit a lot of bases for me.

I liked the plot in the first half of this volume, but the second was more of the all-action, no-heart that has, to my eyes, plagued this title.

Synopsis: A bank planet called Vault is being looted and the Lanterns are sent in. With the capture of the Cepheid Raiders' leader Bolphunga, Hal and John are informed the Raiders have a video of a Green Lantern murdering a Sinestro Corps member. Hal and John keep it to themselves but send Arkillo and Guy to retrieve it from one of the Raiders' vaults. The video does indeed show Tomar-Tu killing Sinestro Corps member Romat-Ru. Meanwhile, Hal finds Romat-Ru's ring in a cracking green construction box. To make matters worse, Soranik is tipped off to Kyle's strange behavior after Sarko and does an autopsy, resulting in her finding out that he is her and Kyle's child.

So all this shit is happening simultaneously. Sora goes off on Kyle and brands his chest with a Sinestro Corps emblem. Tomar-Tu's ring is taken from him and John announces to all the Corps the news of the murder. Everything is falling apart - Sora tells the Sinestro Corps that they are no longer in alliance with the Green, while John says that his treaty still stands and any yellows that want to stay can. Before an all out fight can happen John activates the failsafe he put in the Yellow Lantern they built next to the Green one, basically rendering all the Sinestro Corps to base abilities, like flying. Sora and most of her Corps leave (some stay) and that's that I suppose. Also, Sinestro is alive (of course)

In the next arc, Orion is being chased by something called a Golem, made of Nth metal and sent by Highfather's father Yuga Khan, who is imprisoned in the Source Wall. No idea how these things got out, but maybe this was happening during Metal? Hal and Kyle are able to divert the Golems' attention by stopping Orion's heart, leaving him in critical condition. Back on Mogo, Kyle works on returning Orion's heart to his body while Hal goes after Lightray and Highfather, who are running from the Golem's Omega beams. When Hal catches up and gets Highfather, he meets with the Green Lantern Corps at the Source Wall, where the Golems are trying to free Yuga Khan. They defeat the Golems and return to Mogo where Kyle has successfully healed Orion.

Review: I am well and truly bummed that the alliance between the Sinestro Corps and Green Lantern Corps is over. It was such a good idea and it seems like they killed it before it could even get off the ground. Guy and Arkillo's team-up was my favorite among the team-ups. They worked so well together and they were always playing cards and drinking - it was awesome. I wish I could blame Kyle for all this going down, but I really can't because Sora overrated.

I can't help but wonder if Sinestro being alive had something to do with Sora's overreaction to the news that Sarko was her and Kyle's son. Don't get me wrong - I would be mad, too. But to break off a peace that has never been thought of as a possibility before over it? Bro, come on. Your beef is with Kyle, not the whole Corps. I really wish that plot would have been pushed back and we could have properly seen the trial for Tomar-Tu play out because that to me would have been a legitimate reason to break the treaty. It certainly would have served for more drama between the Corps, but whatever, I guess.

As for the second arc "Fall of the Gods," I don't have much to say about it. It was fine, not really the follow-up I was looking for. The art is incredible and vibrant, and Hal pulls off some impressive shit yet again. The Golems looked so much like the Omega Titans I almost thought that was what they were, but I didn't remember that being the case last time I read this. Overall, not bad, but I'm still salty about the Corps breaking up.

When it comes to the New Gods, less is more (and none is best). Still, I enjoyed the Kyle/Hal team up and the stuff with Hal's dad.

We discussed this series in our Green Lantern spotlight over on the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/episode-251-green-lantern-is-80-years-young

This volume focuses on the underlying tensions that resurface when there is a breach of the law among the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps. I think the events further reflect what an excellent leader John Stewart continues to be. He made sure to investigate all of the evidence of the events thoroughly to appropriately determine the culprit. He also didn't announce anything to both Corps. until he knew all of the facts. He continues to be one of my favorite human lanterns and his integrity and intelligence for leadership are largely why.

Kyle and Soranik's relationship is further explored as well and it is clear that they still have a lot of baggage and trust that needs to be reforged. I thought their character arcs gave more insight into that baggage and gave them a lot of dimension as characters. I'm looking forward to seeing more of both of them and how Kyle deals with the aftermath of everything that happened this volume. Based on the ending of this volume, we're possibly going to see Apokolips and maybe even Darkseid. He's one of my favorite DC villains so I'm looking forward to it.
