Despite the drug consumption and abuse - which has been largely contested in this "true account" - this is a heartbreaking and poignant narrative surrounding mental health of teenagers and specifically teenage girls. This resonates deeply as a coming-of-age story.
I wish Alice was able to live.

<Spoiler> the main character Alice literally said that she would give her little brother drugs without him knowing. She also fat shamed a therapist. She runs away often. The book is unrealistic.

The text is not an authentic text. It is written by someone who has no idea what real addiction looks like.

Don’t read this book, it is not good. This is 200 pages of conservative puritanical backlash to the hippies. How they ever got away with marketing this as nonfiction I don’t know. The plot is so badly devised and unrealistic. The narrator is one of the most annoying in fiction.
