extremely dark book. know that going in. The characters are so well developed. Probably the most well developed out of all the books I have read.

I read this book in one sitting. Starting it at 11pm was a mistake, since I was too creeped out to put it down and go to sleep. I’ve learned I don’t like creepy books, though I can tell the book certainly achieved everything it hoped to achieve. I didn’t love the way the book wrapped up, since certain twists felt predictable and tiring, but for the most part it certainly kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat.

If it wasn't for the second half of this book, my rating wouldn't have been that high.
I really liked the direction that the book took in part 3. I started to understand the hype then. That's when I really started to get stressed out and I think it is the first thriller that has been able to make me feel that way. So it deserves some credit on that front.
Now, I can't really judge the representation of racism in that book, since I'm not black, but I can say that the author was able to make us understand a little bit what being black implied. We can in no way understand the trauma that black people have to carry every day, but the way this book was written made us fear white people and racism like we can imagine Black people do. I can't really judge if it is representative of the reality, but I think I was able to learn quite a bit from this book.
Anyway, this certainly won't be my favorite book of the year, but I think there were some things that I can take from this book and learn from it.
