Yeah, it's as good as everyone says, should have read it sooner. Had me at the edge of my seat the whole time, couldn't put it down. Loved the characters, loved the pacing, loved how queer it was.
It was a bit predictable but shockingly surprising at the same time. I got so paranoid, I suspected everyone at some point and was constantly afraid for the characters. Especially Devon. I love him with all my heart. I was devastated DEVASTATED by some of the scenes and cried multiple times. But it also had heart-warming and empowering moments.
Would love to see an adaptation of this.

That was a piece of a good book. Loved how the author made a fasctinating thriller and page-turner also a methaphor for system racism - I hope it makes many people new to the subjects of priveledges read the novel. The complexity of the system she created suprised me - didn't expect it to be so detailed. However, there wasn't much new info about racism for me - not really for people who look for a book that will educate them when they have a base knowledge of the topic. Nonetheless, a big recommendation from me!!

At first, I was very uncertain this book would pick up any. It felt slow first a thriller and very juvenile even for a Young Adult novel. It picks up! It covers SO MANY heavy topics that need to be talked about more today! And understanding why it was written and the choice for certain aspects after reading the Author's Note made so much more sense, and I liked that choice to make it more personal to her after that.

This was absolutely not what I expected it to be. It was thrilling, infuriating, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I thought some of the author’s beliefs were maybe spelled out a little too much rather than being less obvious and allowing the reader to come to the same conclusion but because of the subject matter and the target audience, I understand why it’s written that way. Also, there were a few scenes that were written in a way that felt too over the top and unbelievable to me, but being a white woman, it could be that my limited personal experience with racism has created a blindspot that disallows me to see something like those scenes actually happening in real life. Despite the two critiques of this novel, I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and interesting and I think teenagers will really enjoy it and adults could really learn from it.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I would rate it higher if I could. This has risen to the top of my list of books I’ll recommend forever.
