this book was equal parts horrifying as it was filled with drama and a very interesting look on systemic racism in education

even though i figured out pretty fast who was involved with aces, i genuinely felt fear for devon and chiamakas lives while reading

i really enjoyed the dialogue and i also think the flashbacks were really well done. i also love dual pov so that was another plus

I was stressed the entire time, going on entire rants with my brother who got just as worked up as I told him the story. Chi’s gullibility really bugged me the most, especially pit against the persona she liked to display.. but she pulled through in the end :).

I found most of this book very interesting! It reminded me of Pretty Little Liars, but it added the twist of the motive being race. I liked the dual POV, as it allowed two perspectives from 2 different paths of life and how they reacted to the same discrimination. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending.
I found the ending too wrapped-in-a-bow. The resolution was all by chance. I did love how they created an organization to counteract the school’s injustice.
However, I found this book entertaining and moving.

That was a piece of a good book. Loved how the author made a fasctinating thriller and page-turner also a methaphor for system racism - I hope it makes many people new to the subjects of priveledges read the novel. The complexity of the system she created suprised me - didn't expect it to be so detailed. However, there wasn't much new info about racism for me - not really for people who look for a book that will educate them when they have a base knowledge of the topic. Nonetheless, a big recommendation from me!!
