I love Louisa may Alcott because there are such important lesson woven into every chapter. This book is very wholesome and fun to see a glimpse of life after little women. It does feel a bit slow/not clear purpose for the first half. Towards the end it felt a bit more purposeful. Heartwarming story overall but not as good as little women obvi. I will read with my future children!

I now know why many didn't continue on with Louisa May Alcott's books. I listened to the audiobook version, and found myself bored. There were a lot of boys to keep organized, as well as story lines. Overall, not a must read even for those who like classics.
If you LOVED Little Women, Jo is in this book quite a bit but nothing like her character in Little Women.

It's been ages since I've read it. Back in junior high! Need to reread the whole series.

I've read this dozens of times at this point, but was in the mood for an adult rereading, and am not sorry I did. It's more interesting as a follow-up to Little Women (to see the adult dynamic at work between the main characters from that book) than it is as a story in its own right, because it's extremely episodic and there are rather too many characters to pay attention to and not enough structure to the story. How rambunctious, rebellious Jo March becomes the clever, wise, and sedate Mrs. Bhaer presented here is one of the mysteries of this particular piece of literature. There are hints at more behind the scenes, though - why does Laurie come visiting so often but Amy almost never? Why did Jo name her two boys Rob (after her father) and Teddy (After Laurie), but not one after her husband Friedrich? This story is from the perspective of the children, and glosses over such points, but it made me wonder what else the author was trying to convey.

The story did not grip me and I just didn’t really care about these boys.
