An adorable romp through various animals, while a bear is trying to figure out what he is.

Books like this remind me of a great replacement for Are You My Mother? I imagine reading this to a kindergarten class and hearing them giggle. I love a book that adds in a little non fiction about animals. Children ages 4 and up.

I received this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is extremely adorable with rhymes and vibrant colors! Bear goes along trying to figure out what he is and tries out all different kids of animals. The illustrations in this book are wonderful and definitely caught my eye.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley.

A Bear is a Bear (except when he's not) by Karl Newson is a story about a bear who wakes up too early and has forgotten that he is a bear. He wanders around trying to decide what he could be. This simple, rhyming tale has lovely illustrations. If your library needs more books on winter and hibernation, then this would be a nice selection.

4,5/5. This children book was fun! We have a bear who asked himself what would he be if he wasn’t a bear. And then we explore the idea with him and then move to another animal, etc. This was just a fun silly ride, no message, no morale, but fun and entertaining. I find myself surprise of how much I enjoy it, which is a good thing!

A Bear is a Bear is such a cute story! I can imagine reading this to my preschool students and getting a giggle out of them as this silly bear tries to figure out what type of animal he could be. He is definitely confused because he is tired. Its time to hibernate! And when he awakens he truly remembers that he is a bear.

This book is tied together with rhymes, repeated phrases, and beautiful illustrations. I enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend it to my littlest learners at school.

So, so, so, so fun. It’s part “swallowed a fly” mixed with a bit of Seuss and it brings a magic all it’s own. Bear can not remember what he is. Is he a bird, or a moose, or even a fox. But each does something that Bear can not do. But with the right leader he will find his way and remember who he is. This will be on library shelves for years with lots of checkouts.

A lovely rhyming picturebook whose rhythm and mounting repetition perfectly mirror the bear's own anxiety as he worries about trying to remember who he is. But don't worry, Spring is around the corner and a deep sleep should sort everything out.
A lovely read-aloud book with a rhythm to it that grew on me the longer is continued. I also adored Allepuz's mixed media illustrations which seemed to be a mixture of print, stamps and stencils.
