That’s the thing about being a hero, even a reluctant one. You put your own life at great risk for the greater good of others. And Mack is a hero. And true to her stripes she takes that mantle up. Like most hero’s it’s not in Mack’s nature to be selfish and self serving. Much to her own detriment and happiness.

In this installment Mack sets to save the dryads from a new villain more powerful than any foe she’s encountered before. In the meantime in a rash perhaps ill advised decision, she recklessly rushes to consummate her growing attraction to the Lord of the Brethren. And yet despite singlehandedly rallying all the supernatural groups to work as one to fight a common enemy, their victory is a bitter one. And for Mack more so.

Again, we can’t forget, at her core Mack is a hero. And what do hero’s do? That’s right. They often risk their own lives and happiness for the greater good of others.

Make sure you have the last book at hand because you’re going to want to read it immediately after finishing this installment. Trust me. Stop what you’re doing and go buy it first before you start to read this one. 😉

Audiobook: very good narrator
CW: Lots of fatphobia, blood, murder, violence, pregnancy, stalking, probably more I’m forgetting

Series review:
The MC is entitled, rude, and daft. I think the author is reaching for tough and plain speaking, but honestly she’s awful and it makes no sense how loyal people are to her.

Also, I’m all for formulaic/predictable books, but each of these dropped so many hints it was really frustrating how long it took the characters to get there.

The books are fine— mostly cause I like the narration and they’re included with audible. I wouldn’t have finished if I was reading them.

A very difficult book to review (a bit like all this series ...)

What I particularly liked :
- the cover is very pretty <3
- the passages where she's followed
- the plot with the dryads
- the end !!! On the one hand, I hated the reaction of Corrigan who was so disproportionate and on the other hand, I found it good because for once, Mack did the only reasonable thing she could do ! And then this revelation at the very end ... <3

What disappointed me :
- Aubrey WTF !!! He is probably the most useless and weird character we've ever seen !!
- Frankly, I know that I should have more sympathy for Mack but she had only to move her ASS and read this F*CHKING book before !!!
- the relationship between Mack and Corrigan ... I loved the fact that their relationship evolves slowly and there, bim they find themselves sleeping together on an artificial excuse in the middle of the woods while there are plenty of people around and they hunt a villain AND in addition, it does not last ... UH !!

In short, I'm going to read the last book to have the end but I REALLY hope that Mack will finally wake up and behave like an adult !!!

The ending absolutely sucks but overall it's a pretty good book. Full review to come for the entire series when I'm done.

**Final thoughts on series**
So I'm done with this and at the end of it, I suppose it was decent. Not amazing, not mind-blowing, but an enjoyable read that made me yearn for more after each book. I was hooked on it for no apparent reason and in the end, I'd say it was worth it and pretty much what you could expect out of the series.
