After reading this book, and thinking about a review, I had to take into account that english is not the author's first language. Considering that, I did not heavily discredit the mostly simple and often repetitive prose. For a second language, the author did a pretty good job in executing English's complicated syntax nuances. I also do not usually read mafia romance books, so I don't have a large repertoire to compare against. In terms of plot, it was rather fast paced but lacked the depth I was anticipating. While there were a lot of exciting action plot points, I felt that they weren’t accompanied by enough supporting detail to really capitalize on the dramatic effect and impact the reader. It felt like the significant events were occurring too quickly in very close succession. Sprinting through the plot compromised the quality of scene enrichment and overall cohesiveness. As a reader, it felt developmentally choppy to jump from scene to scene as well as multiple points of view. Including more details to substantiate the plot would have benefited the reader in connecting with the characters. The brief, shallow explanations and skeletal descriptions didn’t allow for full reader engagement. Providing more structural content to support the story and characters would have incentivized readers to invest themselves more and easily become immersed into the story. If the rest of the book had as much time elapsed and detailed description as the erotic content, the overall quality of the book would be greatly improved. Largely, this was decently written smut crudely included between lower level writing. It would not be totally incredulous to speculate that these two types of content within the book were written by different people because of the disparity in style and skill. I think that if the pace of the plot were slowed down, allowing for additional story development, the book would be vastly better even at the current English proficiency level. I do not think that the breadth of descriptions is as influential in improving this book as is the potential impact increasing the depth of them has.
Came across this one on TikTok so decided to give it a read, it started off really strong, I loved how badass and take so shit Lana was. It’s definitely on the insta lust/love side but I really don’t mind that so that wasn’t an issue. I loved pierce and his possessiveness from the start, I enjoyed how he went with one plan and really thought he was going to stick to it
This was my last read of the year and oh my god was it amazing. I picked it up in the Dark SYKD and absolutely devoured it in one sitting, staying up until 3am to finish it. CJ Lucci does an incredible job of showing the mixed emotions that comes from a lifetime of hatred and half-truths told from only one side of the story and how multiple truths can exist at one time depending on whos telling the story and how this impacts the MMCs own sense of self and justice. It is also refreshing to see a FMC who is an absolute badass in her own right within the dark romance genre, who doesn't need a man to carry out her dirty work but does it herself.
i tried, but i couldn’t get through the first 20 pages without cringing

It is criminal that this book has less than 500 ratings. If you love spicy mafia romance, with plot, READ ISLE OF BEAUTY. I read it after seeing the author’s TikTok and I’m so glad I did. I’ll be reading the next book in the series, can’t wait.

No introduction. No backstory. No cohesive plot. Just straight
horniness. The cover is cute though and the names of the characters aren’t very common and overused.
