Actually I think it should be 2.5 for this one. The book is fun to read, it has a very nice historical background and the tension builds up nicely. The end however is a little "too-much" for my tastes and it reminded more of a movie than a book. It also fails to in my opinion to wrap things up.

I got through a little more than half. Good story, good premise and there were times when it was quite good. But most of the time was hard to get into. I don't think the narrator that performed this was the right choice. I really wanted to like this one.

A new author (to me) to try for some adventure man-smut. It was pretty good, but not as over-the-top as I like these kind of books to be (think Preston/Child, James Rollins, Steve Berry, Matthew Reilly). No man-eating squids, deadly powders from the time of Marco Polo, etc., etc., though there was a good quicksand scene. And - remarkably for this genre! - there was a fairly resourceful female character and a devoted husband/father for a hero. The plot revolved around an Egyptian terrorist, an astounding archaelogical find from ancient Egypt (the titular lost army), a facially disfigured son-of-a-Nazi (have a heart - how could this guy have ever turned out to be good?), a heptologist in over her head, and a square-jawed hero of an Egyptian cop. Like I said, not the greatest, but I'll try another sometime and see if Sussman was just warming up with this one.

Wow! What a well written story. For once I had no idea what was going to happen. The charachters' fates in some cases was rather a surprise. I loved thi historical elements and use of Arabic. I think the book repersented both the accepted and fanatical points of view quite well. I liked the Glossary too.
