The book is a good start to a fantasy series. The world-building is super vivid and imaginative, and it sucks you right into this universe. The characters are so well-developed and relatable, and Sophie’s journey kept me flipping the pages. The whole story felt a bit familiar but the engaging writing and surprising twists made it a really fun read. I would really recommend it for young readers and anyone into fantasy.

LITERALLY SO GOOOOOODDDD. The first scene of Keefe and Sophie and tell me why they have chemistry and they don’t even know each other. Now i have to read so much more books to finally see them together

I struggled with how to rate this book. I did enjoy it. It’s a great middle grade. BUT I would be remiss not to mention it is a rip off of a Harry Potter. A prodigy orphaned girl raised by humans, has magical powers (unbeknownst to her) and gets taken by her own kind around the age of twelve to her own magical world to start studying in her magical school…. Where Stina is the bully (Malfoy) and Bronte is the tough “evil” professor (Snape). Sophie, the main character, will be the Griffindor who saves the day against lurking evil, and of course the Muggles have no idea. She even has her pet Imp Iggy, who thankfully is less annoying than Dobby.

I have several students that are obsessed with this series, so I promised to give it a shot. I am coming off a fairly long stretch of Adult/New Adult fantasy books, so jumping into a middle grade fantasy world felt a little bit slow in the beginning, but the action did eventually pick up and had me quickly turning those pages. I ended up reading the entire book in a single day. I’ll most likely pick up book 2 to see what happens next.
