Prevailing Tropes:
•Slow Burn
•Friends to Lovers
•Grumpy/Sunshine
Notable representation: lesbian, non-binary, demisexual
Contemporary romantic comedies, especially slow burns, are not typically my genre of choice, but 2023 is proving to be the year of pleasant surprises for me, and this book is no exception.
I was enamored with this book from page 1 and the way the characters and romance felt natural and progressed in a way that had me squealing. And speaking as someone who has a sensitivity to the subject of loss and grief, Ivy handled the subject matter with delicacy and grace. Finally, the representation in this book is incredible and was such a breath of fresh air for me as a reader.
A beautiful story and a beautiful debut for Ivy Fairbanks.

Read this book. This is a wonderful rom-com between an animator and an undertaker set in Ireland. I loved every minute of this book. Just put it in your TBR pile and thank me later.
I received an arc from netgalley and the publisher.

I have taken lots of time to rate this book because I really found rating this book hard as I quite enjoyed the start but then the middle and end began to slow down and become repetitive.
However, my rating has stayed relatively high as I REALLY enjoyed the characters and their depth.
The female main character is struggling with grief and internal issues to do with her past. This was an emotional plot structure that brought me to tears at points.
The male main character has struggled with social anxiety and his sexuality. I enjoyed this as it was eye opening and relatable.
The way they progressed from friends to lovers was natural in the beginning and their chemistry was amazing.
Overall, I am excited for another book by this author in the same universe and I hope for the next one the structure is a bit more uniform.

It was a solid 4 stars until the end when it made me cry and Callum said something that reminded me of a Hozier song
