I have definitely read this book multiple times by now, but reading it again after the movie came out made me remember how deep the story lore is. But damn did I forget how misogynistic the undertones of this book are. Not even the undertones as it's right in your face...
But it all shall be addressed in the next book

3.5 stars. The beginning of the book was very slow for me, and it took almost 3/4 of the book for me to really get into it. Once it did pick up it was a lot more fun and interesting and I think I will read the rest of the series.

This took me soooo long! But it wasn’t because it was boring. Honestly, I think that if I had read this when I was younger (because it’s targeted to a younger audience) I would have given it 5 stars. Harry Potter doesn’t stand chance compared to this book! Also their friendship (that i said it was very sapphic the whole time and I stand by it!)… just wow. To the person that wrote this all my praise, because it would be incredible to have a mind like yours. I can’t believe that someone had the creativity to write this.

I really didn't enjoy this book until the end, but the end made up for so much that now it's probably going to get into my list of favorites. I really thought Sophie was going to end up good and that Agatha was going to have to be evil. I also hated that so much revolved around the girls getting a boy's attention. Even Agatha, who hated boys at the beginning and railed against the grading system for the girls, ended up so ensnared by Tedros that at one point it was described as him having "brought her back" from calamity.

I started to warm up to the book around the time that the teacher told Agatha that beauty can only fight truth for so long, and when Agatha finally realized how amazing she is. Then the very end was just magnificent. I loved how the author turned the idea of good versus evil on its head, to finally have the distinction disappear altogether. And I absolutely LOVED that Agatha's kiss is what saved Sophie. Because really, who needs a man to make things better when you have a best friend?

Very good! I loved this take on how fairy tales came to be by going to a school o learn how and only the very best for the best roles, both good and evil. I loved how Sophie and Agatha found their true selves along the way but still remained friends. I hope the rest of the series is as good and the first.

Love love love the whole series

dnf because actually I kinda think the movie is better and the book isn't as good as I remember

this book is literally one of my favourite with the whole "fairytale adaption" kind of theme and it balances character conflict so well I LOVE IT!
