I predicted some of the twists but predicting them didn’t take anything away - it was such a fast-paced, enjoyable read that I devoured quickly!

I listened to this on audiobook, and the narrators did a great job! It was a quick listen, and easy to follow while cleaning and such, which I appreciate.
This is a story about Afton and Sydney, best friends in a small town their entire lives. In high school, Afton was found with a butcher knife in her hand standing over Sydney's father's dead body in her own house after Sydney's father and Afton's mother were having an affair. Afton claims she didn't do it, and has no recollection of what happened.
Twenty years later, she's living a simple life still in her hometown, still friends with Sydney. Sydney's family have forgiven Afton, believing that she didn't do it. This story goes back and forth between present day and the time when the girls were in high school and the night when Sydney's father was murdered.
The story is told through Afton and Sydney's POV, and it worked really well. It helped to build the characters quickly and get a good sense of their personalities faster than if it was just in one POV.
This wasn't necessarily a thriller, as much as it was just a messy family drama that started in a murder. The twist made sense, which I appreciate.....a lot of times I feel like authors are trying so hard for a wow factor that they throw something in that is just too unbelievable.
It wasn't the most exciting story I've ever listened to, which is why I gave it 3 stars. I did enjoy listening to it, and I really liked the ending,
Highly recommend on audiobook if you do decide on this one, it's on KU right now!

Spoiler
but I also wanted more justice for Afton, and wish that Sydney would have somehow gotten caught for all she tried to pull bc she's a psycho, obviously. I love that Drew is cheating on her, and I hope that Sydney tries to kill him and he figures it all out, takes the kids and Sydney loses everything... ha!Highly recommend on audiobook if you do decide on this one, it's on KU right now!
