As someone who loves thrillers and frequently reads them, I am mad that this book didnโ€™t give what the synopsis makes it out to be. I previously read a book by this author and I thought that one was pretty good but this one was kinda boring to say the least. It did not pick up until about 40% into the story.

An ACCURATE synopsis of this book: Afton Teachout is an outcast in her small town, 20 years after being accused of the murder of her best friendโ€™s father. Afton works a job at a hotel and has never quite been able to move on with her life after the murder. When Afton witnesses something she shouldnโ€™t, she questions everything she knows; and in the midst of trying to make things right she ends up in an even bigger mess.

I hated the ending of this book. I wanted more and it was totally predictable. On top of that though, it felt rushed and we never 100% get closure. This book was interesting enough to keep me intrigued but disappointing enough for me to not love it. I also found every single character in this book annoying.

This was a good, twisty thriller! I really enjoyed the pace of the novel as well as the dual perspectives that Minka presents the story in. Selfishly, I also appreciated that Minka did not throw the twist in at the tail end of the novel, but presented it closer to the middle to let things develop and allow the characters to devolve to an (almost) satisfying conclusion. I say almost satisfying because I was hoping for something slightly different, but I do think that it left the doors open for characters to get what was coming to them (so to speak) and to end things on a "good" note.

Overall, this was a really good thriller!
