An outstanding read. Melville has a very beautiful poetic style. At times it seemed like his rythm rose up and down like waves. Yes parts were hard to go through, such as the biology of the whale and parts of a ship. But those seemed to trick my mind to think I was reading true history. I have to admit I thought the ending was a bit anticlimactic. But that could just be a fault of knowing the story before reading the book. But still a must read.

"Moby Dick" di Herman Melville è un monumentale libro, che unifica il poema epico classico con le tendenze moderne del romanzo americano, e fa ciò con una prosa veramente tra le cose più belle che abbia mai letto. Anche l'approfondimento psicologico di personaggi come il capitano Achab è veramente all'avanguardia, e non risulta stucchevole ne datato nella sua trattazione più spirituale. Infatti questo libro è sia un viaggio fisico ma anche un viaggio all'interno del più profondo animo umano. Melville però non vuole limitarsi a questo, ma anzi vuole raccontare anche uno spaccato sociale incentrato su una pratica diffusissima nel periodo in cui il romanzo è ambientato, ovvero la baleneria. Ci ritroviamo quindi moltissimi capitoli costituiti interamente da spiegazioni sui vari funzionamenti e le varie tecniche utilizzate dai cacciatori di balene, che da un lato riducono notevolmente la leggibilità del libro ma dall'altro aumentano ancora di più il sentore di salsedine e solitudine realistica che il libro vuole trasmettere. Un libro assolutamente da leggere almeno una volta nella vita, che può non piacere o risultare ostico per alcuni ma che per me rimane scritto benissimo.
