A spooky Indigenous story, with likeable characters and a satisfying ending. I enjoyed the writing style of the author, as it's very accessible but also descriptive, and likes how adding Cree words in places added to the experience.

This was dark and twisty and a little tense. I really liked it!

It’s billed as a horror but I’m not sure I agree. Sure, there are some scary moments but they only lasted a few pages in total, and mostly towards the end. I liked the indigenous and folkloric elements and was pleased with the exploration of guilt within grief.

it was pitched to me as a horror but it actually felt like instead she played around with horror elements to support the family center focused plot dealing with themes of grief, almost wished she continued to explore that aspect more in depth as it wasn't an element in the short story that was the foundation of this novel (i'll meet her friday and ask questions at a book reading and I'll update this review!!)
