What's more fun then four friends going on their first road trip to a music festival? How about hiding a body and trying to solve who is spiking the drinks of attendees hoping they turn into gruesome monsters?

This book was such a fun read, it gave almost Scooby do "who done it" vibes in the best way. Amazing LGBTQIA+ representation, I was griping my kindle reading so fast to see what happened next. The mystery and the love story had me on the edge of my seat.

re: diversity, the characters are textually diverse, but it's one of those situations where functionally they all feel very white. it didn't really bother me, and the main pairing is queer, but it's one of those hard to quantify situations.

i really enjoyed this, though! it was a bit lighter and more fun than dry, which i read last year, because it's happening post-disaster, but the two are pretty similar.

This was a fun ride! It’s a perfect balance of horrifying and endearing. The main group is a group of girls trauma bonded by the event that changed the world known as The Hollowing. I found all of the girls to be relatable and intriguing to get to know; even when it mainly follows a first person one narrator format, we get pov switches in the form of flashbacks in 3rd person to dive into other characters. There’s romance and a hint of a love triangle, but I would say that it is very much a subplot to the overall plot. All of the four main characters are sapphic, which to me is something I always appreciate when writers realistically write queer people sticking together.
There are some questions left unanswered imo, and it’s kind of an open ending, but it doesn’t deter from the overall satisfaction of the book for me. There are some intense horror elements like body horror and gore, but it wasn’t overdone or overzealous. I really enjoyed reading the evolution of the main couple, even if it wasn’t a major focus and it was predictable I think that it complimented the story and themes well.

This book is such a great summer read! Loved the campy B-movie vibes and the characters were totally adorable. TDD is a book that definitely knows what it’s about. I would not recommend if you dislike gore, but hopefully you gleaned that from the cover lol. Nightmarish scenario but the ending was so sweet and hopeful.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this, but ended up loving it! I’m not a zombie girlie at all, but the premise of this book (if instead of the COVID outbreak we had a minor zombie apocalypse) was really interesting and unlike anything I’ve read before.

A fun YA horror-mystery, full of music festivals, useless bisexuals pining for their best friends, and an interesting take on zombies, this book got me out of a reading slump. It was a quick and easy read, inclusive in a lovely way, and overall just *fun*.
