Cute lesbian romance

3 stars. Cute for what it was and felt like a Hallmark movie with some spice but I ultimately didn’t love it. It’s well written and it’s a quick paced read. The romance was fine but I can’t say that I really bought into the chemistry between Jenny and Blake. It also didn’t help that I just didn’t like Jenny. She was really hard to like and her character had no depth. Also, I’m sorry but I roll my eyes any time someone complains about ‘cancel culture’. It grinds my gears and I can’t take you seriously but that’s because I genuinely don’t think that ‘cancel culture’ is a thing but that’s a soapbox for another day. Blake was the more interesting of the two for me and I liked her character. Overall, this was okay. I can see why other people love it but it didn’t quite land for me.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

was very rom-com and cheesy like a hallmark movie

The story was very cute and was generally well-written, I just didn’t feel enough was done to convince the reader of their relationship. They thought the other hated them, so that would come with more conflict than was presented. Still very cute and would read more of this author.

Not Just Gal Pals is exactly what you’d expenct - a cute, sapphic, lighthearted cozy fall-ish vibes book!

I really enjoyed our FMCs and their supportive nature toward each other. If just felt so healthy and lighthearted and i couldn’t get enough of that! I really enjoyed that there was still third act “drama” but it felt reasonable and didn’t feel unnecessary.

Sometimes books that surround a Tiktok influencer give me a bad taste in my mouth, but this was did the opposite. I felt like it should be seen in books because it’s such a common thing now BUT i think it’s hard to do tastefully in a book and I really enjoyed how Elizabeth did it here.

I liked seeing the cancel culture and her love of it kind of dwindling because I think people get trapped as influencers because once you’re in the public eye like that, it’s hard to come back from.

I could have used a bit more angst / tension or just build up at the end. I wanted her to really grapple with what she was going to do so it built the suspense of the return, but it also doesn’t really bother me how it’s written.

The Vibes:
-Forced Proximity
-Grumpy / Sunshine
-Small Town Romance
-Social Media Influencer
-Slow Burn

I enjoyed the audiobook, but it didn’t make it or break it for me! 😊
