Found this one through a Kilt Mystery list on BookRiot..so..of course, I'm in! And even though I did figure out 'whodunnit' about half way through, it was still a solid read. More serious that the last one (Wicked Autumn) but also about 50 years earlier and in a much bleaker setting. I'm not sure why #22 was the one recommended but I can see starting this series at the beginning. Finished it in a day since overtime has kicked in! Yay Harvest??

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this from a Goodreads giveaway. This was my first book by the duo Charles Todd. While I usually don’t read series books out of order, I am glad I did so now.
This book was well written and the story held my attention the whole way through. I will definitely be reading more in this series.

Divided Loyalty is another great addition to the Ian Rutledge series. Rutledge is sent to investigate an unsolved case of a woman’s body found near the standing stones of Avebury. A previous investigation by the Yard reached a dead end, and Rutledge’s superior is sending him to re-investigate, and possibly give the Yard a reason to accept Rutledge’s resignation when and if he fails. The twists in this story took me by surprise, and made it a read-in-one-sitting pleasure. Frequent back references to earlier in the series will confront the long time reader, but not confuse the reader who is new to the series.

Narrator Simon Prebble is now firmly embedded as the voice and personna of Inspector Rutledge. #22 is one of the best I've read in the series. Tantalizing reveal- Does Chief Inspector Brian Leslie know about Hamish? I have a feeling their might be more to come on this subject.
