Cheesier than expected
I had semi-high hopes for this novel and I think the overall story was good, but the dialogue was absurd and cheesy at times, even unnecessary.

Great read for those who enjoy historical fiction, family drama, and suspense. Once the story really gets going, you can't stop until every skeleton has been pulled out of the closet.

Not a fan of the writing style.
By far one of the best books I have ever read. The entire book was well written and I truly could not put it down!
This book was mindblowingly beautiful! Such a lovely, thought provoking historical fiction. If you are a lover of this genre, I can't recommend this one enough! Sometimes I feel like I've read all that there is to read about WWII, but then an author gives me a completely different view and one that opens my eyes to a new aspect of the war years. This book did just that.
The plot was so intriguing, but the writing style really bothered me... It was just so obvious.
I hate to rate this book so low because it had a lot of potential and it is a book I should have liked. Dual timeline following Gillian in present day and her grandmother during WWII, after the discovery of pictures in the attic. Some of the characters were a little flat (present day), the dialogue was sometimes corny and most of all some of the coincidences in the past were just a bit too much to make it seem like plausibly historical fiction.
The plot is creative and engaging but the writing itself is bad to the point of being distracting.
