 I happen to recently have read the later letters of Dickens  which  actually provide a  useful background to the story.  How difficult it must be, having a high achieving parent. The problem with Plorn Dickens' youngest son, was that he could not apply himself. Yet not only does he apply himself here to become a good sheep farmer but he narrates in literary style worthy of his father. I found the details  about sheep farming and cricket a little tedious but that is because of my interests and is no fault of the writer who captures the protagonists voice well.

Entertaining enough to listen to while doing other things. I don’t know if it would have held my interest in print. Not much character development and, although based in history, is complete conjecture.  Although characteristic of the time in which the book was set, I still found the author’s depiction of the indigenous people demeaning.
