The best book I've read by Rick Riordan.

Flaws of characters a main focus: No

A re-read of this book is crazy as an adult. Rick Riordan is so good at writing a good plot that moves quickly, but still giving you time to sit down and hang out with these characters. I love the three points of view and the natural way that their rotation goes. Jason is such a tragic figure to me and I think that his quiet, uncomfortable leadership is kind of groundbreaking. Piper is such a well written person and such an interesting daughter of Aphrodite. Leo is the perfect "jokester hiding a tragic past" character and I think his feelings of being the one left out really impacted me as a child and honestly, today. This book is insane and Rick is a genius for what he starts here. What a rewarding re-read.

Absolutly great!

This is one of those books where,as I read, I kept looking at the diminishing number of pages left and thinking, "No! No! I don't want this to end!"

All four stars came from loving this world & characters, and the plot was fun and satisfying. The writing was weirdly much lower quality than Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Was he writing these on a quick timeline?

If you liked Percy Jackson and the Olympians books, you will probably like The Heroes of Olympus.

The Lost Hero is a great introductory book in the new series. I really like that even though we have three new protagonists, we still get to see the characters we know and love from the original series.
