A solid serial killer crime thriller with some dark murders and a twisty plot.
This is the second book in the Robert Hunter series. I enjoyed the book and although the plot was obviously different to the first book, I did find the general flow of the book seemed quite similar. I will leave a good long gap before reading the next book in the series which I think will help.

Well… that was disturbing 😳😬
I’m slowly re-reading all of Chris Carter’s books, and The Executioner might just be his most gruesome one yet. Some of the scenes? I had to pause and stare at the wall for a second. 😂 But weirdly enough, I still had fun reading it.
Is it normal to call these kinds of books my “comfort reads” after a long workday? No? Just me? Okay. 😅
Anyway, the story was intense, but I did notice a few chapters that felt like filler. The pacing could’ve been tighter, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. If you’re into twisted crime thrillers with next-level gore, this one delivers.

Chris Carter does it again — The Executioner is a masterclass in psychological suspense that had me completely hooked from the first gruesome chapter to the final jaw-dropping twist. This is not a book for the faint-hearted, but if you love gritty, graphic thrillers with a seriously clever plot, you’re in for a wild ride.
Detective Robert Hunter is back and facing one of the most twisted killers yet — someone who doesn’t just want their victims dead… but punished. The murders are brutal and symbolic, and the deeper Hunter digs, the more disturbing the truth becomes. The pacing is relentless, the writing sharp, and the tension? Unbearable (in the best way).
Carter’s background in criminal psychology shines through — the mind games, the profiling, the moral dilemmas — it all feels chillingly real. I devoured this in two sittings and gasped out loud more than once. If you’re a fan of gritty crime fiction that leans dark and disturbing, this needs to go straight on your TBR.
📚💀 Bloody brilliant, addictive and seriously hard to put down.
