3.5 // This was quite short and I wouldn’t necessarily go as far as to calling it a proper « manifesto » but overall I would say that it succeeded in what it went out to do. I enjoyed Beard’s synthesis of classics and modern politics, it was very much « up my alley », I just wish it were a bit longer.

I read this in one gulp last night, loved it, and then this morning one of the (male) teachers at my school chose 5 boys to do a presentation on gender equality. So. There's that.

As a life-long feminist and one-time classicist, this was definitely up my alley, but you don't need to know anything about the ancient Greco-Roman world to get something out of it. Incisive & insightful, deeply relevant. Will leave you wanting more Mary Beard and WAY more opportunities for women to speak up and speak out.
