2 stars for the artwork but for the stories themselves? Poor. A few shorts are ok but these are all shorts. There is no link apart from Moon Knight himself and quite frankly the stories are pretty dull, two-dimensional things that simply sparked no interest in me whatsoever. I much preferred Bendis and Maleev's version. Will not be bothering with the second volume.

Moon Knight is one of those characters I never knew existed until very recently. Though I was not particularly impressed by previous volumes, Ellis’s storytelling here is superb. These issues, which are mostly stand-alone stories, are wonderfully told, and alternate between brutal, creepy and elegantly haunting. Shalvey’s artwork compliments the story beautifully, and the coloring is wonderful, especially when contrasted with Moon Knight himself. I was sad to read that this creative team would be leaving after the release of Issue 6.

3.75 stars.
Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire's combined artistic efforts create a dark, gritty and constantly innovative and fantastically coloured feast for the eyes. I chose to start from the beginning and read this volume after being captivated by a glimpse at Greg Smallwood's art in the second volume, but now I feel like it will be hard to move away from Shalvey's own amazing style.
The art in this first volume is superb, but the episodic storytelling of the individual issues is a little too vague and disconnected for me overall. I feel like I need to delve a little deeper into the history of Moon Knight as a character to fully appreciate this new incarnation, but I'm interested to see how he is handled in volume two.

The story behind Moon Knight's origin was the main thing that drew me to this character; I love the idea of someone being brought back to life and then empowered by an ancient Egyptian god. In general his powers are also just really cool (punching ghosts?! That's badass) and make him standout from other nighttime vigilantes. Also, some of the art in the volume was SO well done and fit the story and character really nicely.
Overall I thought the plot of each issue were a little weak and/or lacked pizzazz; it was mostly just seeing Moon Knight beat up baddies or letting the reader get a taste for what his powers are, which is a decent thing to have for readers new to him, but it does kind of leave you wanted MORE, too. It felt like such a tease to get a piece of a plot, like the bizarre shared dream issue, only to have it end so fast and then move on.
However, I definitely want to read more of Moon Knight going forwards! (Honestly the sick outfit alone has me hooked enough to keep going.)

Not only is the comic itself amazing, but the panel layout and art is superb. This is such a great example of unique and gorgeous panel composition.
