This was an adorable story. Mr. Hermit Miser is a grumpy neighbor who does not keep his yard or house well. They are overgrown and rundown. But one day in his yard comes across beautiful green leaves that will soon be the vines of pumpkin plants. He's super happy about this and makes sure, at first, to tend these leaves. After a bit though, they begin to creep into his neighbor's yards- his neighbors aren't terribly friendly with the grumpy man. Mr. Miser is not happy that his pumpkin plant is doing well in those other yards so he devises ways to get them back. But, as the other neighbors rather like the idea of having pumpkins too, they thwart his plans.
Well, eventually the pumpkins grow and Mr. Miser really wants some pumpkin pie. But he has no idea how to make one! The part of the story that tells of his attempts is rather funny, but I also felt bad for him. If he'd only quit being so grumpy...
It is a really cute story that would make a great read-aloud for any age.
