Bought it for a laugh. I mean, look at the title. Joke's on me. It was a collosal waste of time. He's full of himself and sexist to boot. Goodbye Nietzche, may your work never cross my path.

word of caution before reading this self-celebrating autobiography, do not take this seriously. good read if you want a good laugh, bad read if you can't take sarcasm.
This book is part of the "Great Ideas" series published by Penguin, and it is an abridgment of Nietzsche's book, Ecce Homo. It contains page after page of seemingly self-aggrandizing claims. For all I know, Nietzsche is being completely sincere in proclaiming his own greatness, but I cannot help but wonder if he was being deliberately ironic.
For instance, Nietzsche is the man who wrote, "I know my fate. One day there will be associated with my name the recollection of something frightful - of a crisis like no other before on earth. I am not a man, I am dynamite." He talks about how wonderful all his books are, but then exhorts his readers to forget what he said and think and create for themselves. Perhaps he's being doubly ironic, or perhaps he's being contradictorily sincere. Whatever he's doing, he's doing it well. He really was right about his destiny. He's an iconoclast, an amoral moralist, and a force to be reckoned with. This book would work as a good introduction to Nietzsche and his philosophy.

Nietzsche is my problematic fave, okay?
When it comes to what I believe in, I know that deep down, it's very far from Nietzsche. I'm too much of a Plato and Sartre fan for us to work out, too religious for Nietzsche. If I would have met him in real life, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have liked him very much either.
That said, I love his work. He's so funny, so well worded. I intend to study German one day (after Arabic and Esperanto obviously) to read his book in his language. I love how he's a part of our culture, how he's so bad-ass yet so utterly unaware of how he's perceived nowadays.
I don't know what would make Nietzsche more upset, his perceived connection with Nazi Germany or how he appears in philosophy books like another philosopher, sandwiched between Hegel and Camus.
All in all, a lovely, if very short, book.
what I'm taking with me
• I still don't know why Nietzsche is so wise.
• Nietzsche being so sexist breaks my heart each time. I just, I get that he was lonely but come on, chill.
• Sass goals. Totally sass goals. And confidence like wow, I want to say I know I'm an eighth as good as Nietzsche thinks he is.

I read in English but this review is in Bahasa Indonesia
Buku ini terdiri dari 3 tulisan: Why I Am So Wise, Why I Am So Clever, dan Why I Write this Book.
"To accept oneself as a fate, not to desire oneself 'different' -- in such conditions this is great rationality itself.

"My formula for greatness in human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be other than it is, not in the future, not in the past, not in all eternity. Not merely to endure that which happens of necessity, still less to dissemble it -- all idealism is untruthfulness in the face of necessity -- but to love it..."
