I really liked McNiven's art with this book. In fact, that is why I would rate it as high as I have. The problem is the same one I'm having with most Millar. Gratuitous, glorified violence. Some of these characters do despicable things to each other. And the reader is left with nothing, but a cheap twist ending that really isn't all that surprising or new. I was left with a horrible hollow feeling because of all that violence and nothing worthwhile said about it - no satisfying conclusion. I don't believe that was the writer's intent either. In the end, Millar is slapping us on the back saying, "Wasn't that cool?"

No.

Kind of cool, great artwork, but the plot was a little too thin to care even a little bit about the characters.
★★★½

It was an interesting premise. But I think the character of nemesis would have worked better as a long term series rather than this short series. Too much happened in too short of a time.

A boring load of egostistical shit from Millar and McNiven. It's full of boring characters and holes and all together is little more than torture porn.

An interesting premise, though the ending seemed a bit rushed.

A lean, gory, suspenseful little story with a kinda lame ending. For economy of storytelling it gets an A+, it just wasn't entirely satisfying, somehow.

I first read Nemesis as the individual comics came out. Reading it in a disjointed way made it come across more like a sadistic adult Kick-Ass, but the full arc in one piece is definitely much darker. Intended to be fun, it's actually kind of terrifying in a way and that's why it works.

The story is pretty simple. You have the supervillian Nemesis - he's super rich with a ton of resources and even more planning involved. He's targeted the Washington DC police chief next and, well, it's interesting to see the back and forth between Nemesis and the authorities.

Mark Millar is a little sick in the head in a few ways when it comes to comic concepts, and this is no different in that regard. Some of the things Nemesis comes up with are absolutely outrageous, the book itself is a bloody, graphic mess (in a good way), and it's really solid in what is something generally unique.

Entertaining. And it's much more plausible than Batman. Each time you pass a page the argument becomes more insane and funny, and ends in style.

Probably the darkest of all of Millar's evil villain pieces. It's no Kick-Ass but it's pretty good anyway.
