I did enjoy it and read it in one night. It was a good story about a queer person who lives a normal life. I found it very refreshing.

I loved to see Michael go on a journey of self-discovery and self-love, how he found himself among the drag community and the support he received along the way. I also liked the exploration of the intersection between parts of his identity and to see what it means to him and others in the novel. The flamingo metaphors were beautiful, the verse format was really easy to follow and effective, yet my favourite parts were the little poems he would share with us full of his doubts, difficulties and joys in life. The last one specially made me really emotional.

Highly recommended.

I love books written in verse, and this was a beautiful coming-of-age story that translated really well in the audiobook format. There were moments of joy, moments of sadness, and a lot of self-discovery. I loved seeing Michael’s journey and how he found freedom in the power of drag! I also liked how it explored the intersections of his identity, how it made him feel “not enough” in spaces he should belong in, and how he overcame that.

This is a lovely little novel-in-verse. I loved Atta’s style and how spare yet rich his language is. I know sometimes we can get a little tired of a coming out story, since sometimes it feels like that’s the only time LGBTQ+ people are represented in media, but I loved the way this story explored the intersections of race and sexuality and internalized homophobia.

This was a beautiful prose book that covers many essential topics.  I'm glad I finally got to be able to finish it up. But also sad this young adult self discovery  book has to end. I can't  wait to see whatever  Dean Atta comes out with  next. Whenever it comes  out.
