Another fun easy listen by Laura Kay. I didn't do myself any favours by leaving huge gaps between time spent listening on audiobook but the story was easy to follow so I could pick it back up. Will definitely read more that this author writes.

While the premise is really fun, I felt the chemistry was lacking between the main character and the love interest. Honestly, I kept waiting for someone else to appear as the actual love interest and was kind of disappointed when I realized that was definitely not the case 3/4 into the book.
I can understand why El is into Ray, but not why Ray returns those feelings. We never really see any scenes where El is someone that Ray vibes with on a romantic level. For me, their ultimately getting together felt more like Ray being afraid of losing her best friend than her being actually interested in El. That isn't romantic and is unlikely to be sustainable, from my view.
The book still gets 3 stars, because the side characters are fun and the premise is enjoyable. I also love the promotion of small town queerness throughout, but the romance was particularly lacking to me.

i REALLY wanted to love this book because i think the characters are great (mostly) and the idea of this new community is wonderful. but i found el annoying and i feel as if her character was changed around a lot… but not in a character development way… more like the idea of who she was gonna be changed at some point and then went back and forth. but i did love will and jamie and the twilight chickens
