I got this as a blind date with a book from Carmichaels and it was pretty cute! I love the trope of moving into a small somehow perfect village and there was a fun cast of supporting characters. As a romance, well, just a lot of it is unrequited love and even though that’s my favorite kind (lolsob), I’m not sure the payoff was strictly worth it. There’s a lot of pining and maybe not enough character development in El to make the whole thing work. Sure, it’s got a HEA, but I was never super convinced about it, I guess. Still, a fun enough read when I needed something fluffy! And there’s a progress Pride chicken coop!

I'm irrationally angry with this book. Despite knowing that it was women's fiction going into it, I thought that we might see some kind of lasting change in character throughout. El's "wild year" was an awesome concept, but she spends so much of it struggling to get out of her shell. I would've loved more of a focus on the commune in the country and less of El pining for Ray. Their relationship never really felt real to me, more just Ray using El for comfort. But hey, the chickens were cool.

*Thank you to Vintage Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review*
