4 stars!

For me, this book is much, much better than an Enchantment of Ravens by the same author.

Part of the reason why is probably because of how this book actually has a plot and not just vibes. The pacing is also really well done. The reason why I slowed down towards the end of the book is probably because of how a bit predictable everything turned out to be. I was expecting more from Elisabeth since she's the main character and all but apparently, there's a reason why the title of the book is 'Sorcery of Thorns'. Still, I would love to know more about our badass female protagonist.

One thing I absolutely loved about this book is probably the magic system. The way the books are somehow alive gave me major Hogwarts Library/ Ghibli vibes. The way the books behaved actually gave life to the story itself and I found myself endeared to some of them.

I have a few minor gripes with the writing but I simply love the story, the world, and the characters too much to give this anything other than 5 stars.

I was excited to read it every night. I didn't want it to end and I'm low-key sad that I finished it. There's a companion novella and yes, I am going out to the nearest bookstore tonight to purchase it.

Shoutout to booktubers for putting this book on my radar. And for comparing it to Howl's Moving Castle - that was the selling point for me. If you enjoyed HMC (book or movie), pick this up because I agree with the comparison.

Now somebody please adapt this into a miniseries for television because I wants ittt 😭

I would sell my soul to Silias.

I usually have a hard time getting into YA romance but this one was cute.
I really enjoyed Nathaniel’s personality and I think that’s why it was an enjoyable romance. He’s witty, sarcastic, humorous and flirty. Elisabeth is probably one of my favorite heroines. She’s everything I want from a main character. I have a tendency to dislike FMCs and I think this speaks volumes about how Elisabeth was written. She’s a girl who grew up in a Library full of grimoires and builds an immunity to magic. Her courage was something admirable throughout the book, I didn’t get the “god she’s so dumb” vibe I usually get from most female protagonists. (Feyre from ACOTAR I’m looking at you.) I genuinely rooted for Elisabeth. I often get frustrated by how naĂŻve most FMCs are written. Hands down Elisabeth is my favorite character written so far.
The romance in this book wasn’t the main plot so if you’re looking for a specifically romance book then you might be a little disappointed because this is a very very light romance. The plot had quite a few things going on. However, it wasn’t overwhelming.

This is overwhelmingly okay. Is there anything inherently wrong with it? No, not really. I just didn’t care for it. I was bored almost the whole time, the characters and plot did nothing for me. The world building was non existent in the way of backstory, by the end i still didn’t really know why anything happened the way that it happened. If it wasn’t for book club I probably would’ve DNFed. Now, give a whole book about Silas? THAT I would read and probably love.

The writing style wasn't completely my thing, but the book is FUN. The perfect book to get out of a reading slump. A bit childish for me at times, bit still entertaining and it doesn't have the usual problems that bother me in YA.
It could've been a 3.5, but the fun I had reading it and the *awesome* magic system bumped it up to a solid 4 stars.
