This is where this already-terrible series veered off into even more abysmal territory. At this point, the love story has finally settled into endless repeat mode ("oh no, Richard and Kahlan are separated! Will they ever find each other again?"), and the bizarre "evil communist"-propaganda underlying the whole series is brought even stronger to the fore. Compared to this, Ayn Rand's "novels" read like a well-balanced and fair assessment.
And of course, Goodkind's rape fantasies are featured prominently. Again. Disconcertingly so.

A great story with lots going on and plenty of twists. No soapbox preachyness…yet.
Still itching to pick up the next one as fast as possible, but I didn't get into some of the new characters quite as much as the last to. I think my favorite part was Zedd's last chapter. : )
Was NOT impressed with the narrator especially when I couldn't hear or understand the whispering so lost parts of the story because of it and because of the narrator I cut 2 stars off. For some reason I didn't remember most of the book although did remember bits of it so I knew I had had to have read it but a very large portion of it was like a new book for some reason. It was a good book and probably would have enjoyed it more with a better narrator

As well as the lazy plot, and convenient turn of events that allow the (male) hero to come out of almost every situation completely unscathed, I could no longer stomach the misogynist sexual violence that's a feature of this series.
Also, you can't claim to have a main character that's fighting for peace and justice when that character chooses to condemn ordinary, powerless people to decades of misery because the people who happen to be their hereditary leaders choose not to agree to his new tyrannical regime.
The first book was fine, but I'm not hanging around to see how this comparatively pedestrian fantasy series develops. I suspect it doesn't.
