I really liked book 1 of this series. It was so simple and easy to follow. Book 2 took a step back. Good, not great. Still enjoyable. Book 3 took the series and drove it off a cliff, leaving the reader standing at the top, thinking “What. Just. Happened? Is this the same series I started?”. The plot of this book got so weird and awful that I just started skim reading. You can’t force me to read every word of your garbage!!!

Since overcoming the nausea I had succumbed to over the romance between
Richard and Kahlan (it took a few years, no antibiotics were required),
I decided to take another step in the series. Like I've said in other
reviews for these books, this isn't such a huge commitment as these haven't been the types of books that hold you hostage to the series by ending with cliffhangers.

Blood of the Fold was OK. I really like the way Goodkind uses magic in
these stories, and I like the way he can keep a story interesting and moving along. It really doesn't feel like a 700 page exercise, and you're through before you know it.

However, I didn't find this book as good storywise as the first two.
But I was thankful that Richard and Kahlan were kept separated for
most of it.
I must say I think this may be my last outing with this crew.I really can't take Goodkind's sappy take on romance, or the cutesy encounters with Gratch the Gar.

There's got to be better fantasy out there that will wow an adult reader.

Help! Anyone?

Okay, though I am enjoying these books I'm also convinced the author is a sexual sadist who dresses up like a lady, Silence of the Lambs style. And if he weren't writing down his never-ending disturbing rape anecdotes, he'd probably be a real-life anger excitation rapist.
That aside, I'm still captivated by the story of Richard and Kahlan. I have trouble putting the books down because I can't wait to find out what happens next, and if they'll ever truly be together.
