An interesting start to what seems to be a good series. Originally I wasn't sure I was going to stick with it, but it was really good. Grew on me.

Wow!
This was phenomenal.
I can not wait for the sequel!

This is gruesome and has horror elements, just FYI. Not scary but some dark fantasy for sure.

three sisters in 1889 Louisiana learn hoodoo from their aunt until a decisive moment involving the town sheriff changes all of their lives.

I loved the atmosphere of the book and the relationships between the sisters. It felt so real, like sisters who love each other but always pick on one another. And their relationship with their aunt was also lovely, but I had a hard time feeling engaged with the story. I felt like I was just waiting for something to happen. The pacing felt off as well. Some parts felt dragged on for far too long, while things like the climax felt rushed over. And there were a couple editing issues that also took me out of it. I think if this had been more finely edited, I would have enjoyed it more.

I cannot wait for books 2 and 3. The characters and dialogue was so believable it draws you in. Obsessively reaseared and achingly heart-felt.
