I loved Code Name Verity and I'm a huge math geek so I was hoping that this book would surpass how much I loved even CNV. But I just couldn't get into this for some reason. I remember CNV taking a few attempts to love, but this wasn't the same. I don't know if it was me not being able to connect with characters, then the points of view kept switching so I REALLY didn't connect or a sense of disappointment over my expectations not being met. Likely all of the above. It wasn't terrible, but definitely a letdown and not as memorable as CNV.

These are so good and Wein somehow captures the horrors of war while still making it an exciting read.
Another WWII story involving a member of the Beaufort-Stuart family. This one involves a black British-West Indian character who not only has to deal with the ravages of war but also the prejudice of people she works with. Another exciting installment of the loosely connected series that started with Code Name Verity.

I quite enjoyed this book. I read Code Name Verity years ago and absolutely loved it, then recently discovered that there are other books in the series.
The story was a bit slow to get going, but I enjoyed it as it went on. It was interesting meeting (or remeeting) the different characters and getting to know them. I liked the setting.
I was aware of reading a black character written by a white author, however after reading the author’s note, she took care in getting help and advice on this issue and I think it worked well. There were some parts of it that annoyed me, being from Scotland as they weren’t accurate and I didn’t find it fair to depict some of the children in the way that they were.
Overall, great story, very sad. I was not expecting that ending, rather depressing but good story.
I also now want to go back and reread Code Name Verity yo.

Fantastic read.
I liked this book, but it definitely isn’t my favorite in the series. I keep getting surprised when Elizabeth Wein writes another book in this series because I don’t feel the need to read more about the characters that were introduced in Code Name Verity. And I love the characters in Code Name Verity. I also like Elizabeth Wein’s writing and storytelling which is why this book was on TBR list before I realized it was part of the series. I would prefer reading about new characters. Now that I’ve said all that I will say that I’d totally read a book that focuses on Louisa’s experiences during WWII.
