This book legitimately hurt to read. My heart ached for the characters all throughout this one.

But, as always, Cassandra has offered another masterpiece of a story that is truly leading to what must be the most epic conclusion of all time. 😭🫶

The Details:
Narrated by Grant Cartwright and Eloise Oxer
Unabridged

I think this may have been my least favourite of the series. I felt like there was too much going on and I got confused at which plot I was following.

A lot of the side characters had some povs too, so I found it difficult to keep track of everyone, despite being familiar with their voices from prior books in the series.

I know this was an important novel, building up to climax, but it was very overwhelming with the abundance of threads that were weaving together.

I was not expecting to get as emotionally invested in this as I did, lmao.

I forgot how much I absolutely despise Alec's subplot; as an ashamed Malec girl, I blocked it from my memory, and for good reason. Truly so bad; normally, my boy Alec can do no wrong, but this time ... he did very wrong. I unironically love Isabelle's character development, and I stand by Cassie doing sibling relationships right - when they're not incestuous. Alec, Izzy, and Jace are a great trio, and I like that Cassie remembered about parabatai in this book. Also, shoutout to Becky.

Also, absolutely so mad at Clary - but what else is new? Admittedly, I much prefer Team Good over Team Evil (not surprising based on my track record of favourite characters), so I'm going to be more critical of Clary, but man, her move in Paris made me actually so mad. But then she redeems herself because, of course, she does. After all, she's the perfect self-insert Mary Sue.

Finally, why on Earth did Cassie decide this series needed more incest??!? Like, we had the incest scare, and we were incredibly relieved to discover it was just a scare and not real incest, but then she insisted on adding incest in this book? We got lulled into a false sense of security with the last book's incestlessness. This feels like a betrayal.

Even though exciting things happen the book comes off more as set up for the next book. With the gang split up there’s more POVs which I liked. The side plot with Alec though was kinda boring. All that aside this was an interesting edition to the series and I look forward to the next book.
