There were some things done really well and then others that I was disappointed in. The author does an excellent job with world building and with setting the tone of having a complete matriarchy. Unfortunately, there were some pacing issues and I often felt confused when characters made choices. We also often had storylines that just got dropped, such as the classism and sexism that the community was dealing with as well as Seske’s sister. Overall, I enjoyed this more than the other book I read by the same author.

This was just not my type of book.

It is a heavily relationship driven story and it starts out well in that direction. You believe the connections between the characters but then they do things to each other that I find it hard to believe some would ever forgive and forget, and yet they seem to.

I won the second book in the Series from a Goodreads Givaway but I need to decide if I want to continue. I really wanted to like this one.

Fascinating world-building, but much more violence and body horror than I'm comfortable with at the moment.

My only issues was the casual
racism
towards the end of the book. I do like the juxtaposition of what a
matriarchal society looks like in comparison to a patriarchal society

4.5 Compelling world building. Authentically queer. Octavia Butler-esque.
