lesbian matriarchal beast ship tentacle space sex slay…. kind of like Ursula le guin meets an unkindness of ghosts by River Solomon, except more flat writing and characterization and less engrossing

"This book surprised me over and over again, in ways I couldn’t see coming no matter how in or out of the box I tried to think. Plot threads moved and concluded in ways I wouldn’t have expected but worked perfectly for the plot. It gave me the sense that Drayden let her characters decide what was going to happen next, rather than following a pre-planned outline or plan; it gave the flow of events an organic feel that I thoroughly enjoyed....."

I enjoyed every second of this read.

Pretty good! Super fast paced but the world building is a bit lacking! The characters were well written.

I’m not even sure what happened in this book… might have to reread in the future

This book took me on such a journey. I couldn't put it down. The worldbuilding is so rich and bizarre and I wanted to soak it up forever. I though that the ending was rushed, but the rest of the book was so good that this is still a 4.5 for me. WOw.

This book is a weird wild ride. Much like Temper before it, the first half of the story could have been condensed but it still gets major points for being apologetically strange. Also, as usual, Nicky's Drayden's characters are delightfully queer AF and this time the society is matriarchal, which is lovely.

I do have a bone to pick with Drayden over the use of vomit. Okay, so one of the main characters has a tendency to throw up, I get it but I don't agree with the assessment that she can vomit on people and they laughingly wipe themselves off. People don't react like that. And it happens to two different sets of people. It's disgusting and I didn't find it realistic or logical. Yuck!
