It has been a while since I have read a Laura Lippman novel.  I liked this one.  I enjoyed both main characters, even though neither was a particularly nice people. The twist at the end was good. I probably should have been able to predict it, but I didn't.  Of course, Baltimore was a great character, too.

There was a lot of discussion about the shifting perspectives. Some good, but mostly not liking it. But I saw was something else.  The only two main perspectives: Maggie and Cleo. All the other perspectives were one chapter character studies.  I think Lippman was having WAY too much fun creating various character studies a bunch of side characters. In my opinion, they were good and interesting character studies that still did the important job of moving the plot along.

Aceasta a fost o lectură care nu m-a impresionat pe parte de suspans, dar care este atât de bine scrisă încât nu m-a deranjat

I liked the different POVs but I found the main character very unlikable.

So good. I love stories set in cities where I live or have lived where the city is part of the character development. This book is fantastic and makes me want to read all the novels Laura Lippman has ever written.

I love the timeframe in which this book is written and the emerging personal politics of the main character. The author has such a smooth way of speaking in each character's voice and from each character's perspective at the turn of each chapter.

Lippman is a great talent!

my first of this author’s, and i was drawn in far more than i’d expected! this is a tale of 1960s baltimore, based loosely on two crimes, touching on a variety of heavy themes and surprising me at the end with a conclusion to a mystery i hadn’t even realized WAS a mystery. i enjoyed the carousel of POVs - even if only as standalone “human interest” pieces, they propelled me forward.

Decent character development (at least in the main character) but the plot was meh at best. Didn’t hang together well and overall some lame secrets and mysteries.
