Lou Sanders writes exactly as she talks. Knowing her tone really added to the reading experience.
If you don’t like her stand-up or what you’ve seen of her on television, you won’t like this book. But if do like her, you will enjoy it. At least, I did.
Unlike other celeb’s who land themselves a book deal, Lou actually has stories to tell. She shares tales of her life and reflects. Spoiler alert: there’s lots of trauma and bad decisions. But still she somehow keeps it light and shares how she came to the state of making amends with her past. It’s remarkable how hilarious a book with such heavy matter can be. I read it for entertainment, not enlightenment and it delivered.
This memoir is not a literary masterpiece but I found that to be quite refreshing. It’s not pretentious. It’s very Loulie. She stuck to her voice and true to herself. I think that’s brave. She is bold.
Graphic: Alcohol, Alcoholism, and Addiction
Moderate: Rape
Minor: Death of parent, Grief, and Animal death
