It was really enjoyable. I think the world-building was easily the best aspect of this story. Magical powers based on the phase of the moon on your birthday. It’s some cool stuff. I loved learning about the different powers people wield, how they use them, and all about the society depicted in this novel.
Plot was… eh. I feel the book should have been paced a bit quicker. The length doesn’t ruin the novel, but it does drag it down a little. I think this thing could’ve been about 100 pages shorter and the novel would’ve been better for it. I definitely saw a few of the twists coming, but they were enjoyable nonetheless.
The characters were a mixed bag for me. Emory kind of got on my nerves. I feel like a lot of the conflict in this story could have been avoided if she just thought critically for a second. Baz on the other hand was delightful. I always found his chapters more compelling. Kai, Virgil, and Jae were also nice to read about. I don’t really have a verdict on Romie because we didn’t see too much of her. And I never once liked or cared about Kieran, and he was a pretty crucial character… so yeah mixed bag.
Overall I liked this. It was a nice read, and I’ll pick up the sequel when it comes out.

I struggled through the first 50%. The story wasn’t motivating me much to continue but I’m glad I did. The second half of the book really made up for it

An interesting adventure with some cool worldbuilding, I wasn't always sure where it was going with the concept even though the characters were pretty predictable. Left on a pretty big cliff hanger, but not sure if I'm going to read the next.
